Case Study: Bolton City Council

Another instance in which Titan Vision has been used is Bolton town centre. This involved providing the solution for having four sites up to seven miles from the control room in Bolton town centre. It was decided that wireless would be the most suitable solution.

New technology is bringing radio networking to a much wider range of applications. The Titan Vision CCTV system sits particularly well on radio networks with flexibility and portability being the key issues. Radio networks can now be used over increasingly large distances, with point to point connectivity now up to distances of around 10 miles. The advantages are the low installation costs and speed of implementation. The disadvantage being that the system requires an uninterrupted line of site between points. Greater distances can be achieved and line of sight problems eliminated using booster stations at set intervals.

Radio networks come into their own where the costs are compared against conventional leased fibres. Multiple nodal points connected over larger distances require only an annual licence of £50 as well as the cost of annual maintenance. Annual savings are enormous.

The Bolton project puts VMS at the fore front of CCTV technology with few others taking advantage of the cost savings associated with radio networking as opposed to traditional methods such as leased fibres.
