ACTi supported Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum to complete a quick IP video surveillance system for Kylie – The Exhibition

The background of the project is something hard to be neglected. Originating from the Arts Centre, Melbourne, and following its massive success in London and Manchester, Kylie – The Exhibition comes to Glasgow. The exhibition explores Kylie Minogue as a popular icon and international performer. In the preparation of the 4-month long exhibition in Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, the security manager had to arrange a video surveillance system to cover the main areas of the exhibition including entrance and exit to ensure objects on display safe and to assist and control numbers of visitors at busy times.

The requirement for the video surveillance system was a quick, easy installation which is flexible and discreet and gives good quality real time recordings. In addition, there was a requirement for minimal disruption on install and the ability to view via network to other locations.

Visual Management System, an expert system integrator of IP surveillance, helped them to achieve the task. IP surveillance was chosen because it allows fast and efficient use of existing infrastructure, allows future flexibility and easily managed images fitting into well with their requirements. ACTi IP fixed domes with PoE, CAM-7301P, are used because it is the most cost effective, high quality IP cameras available on the market. CAM-7301P with 540 TVL quality delivers D1 (720 x 576) resolution and 25 fps real time video. As to PoE, it stands for power over Ethernet, meaning you only need one UTP network cable to transmit electric power along with data to a remote switch in an Ethernet network. It saves extra effort ducting new power plugs.

Visual Management System installed ACTi PoE domes and a Network Recorder which was quick, simple and high quality images recorded for 14 days rolling recording. They utilised PoE for easy installation using building network structure to allow access for the security manager and others. The system was installed and commissioned all within 1 day.

“Quick, efficient high quality images with a cost effective solution for our immediate needs “ said Tom Gallagher, Security Manager, Glasgow Museums.
